As the summer transfer season moves ahead, the Blues seem to
be right in the middle of the action. In the latest transfer news for Chelsea,
it seems the club has accepted the deal offered by Arsenal worth £14 million
for goal custodian Petr Cech. The ‘keeper has spent most of the last season on
the bench as Chelsea
brought in Belgian Thibaut Courtois in in his place.
Due to the fact that he
has been demoted to a primarily substitute position at Chelsea, it seems Cech
has no qualms about leaving the club despite having earned near-legend status
amongst fans at Stamford Bridge. Principal owner Roman Abramovich has given the
nod to Cech’s move despite Mourinho having his own reservations about the
custodian moving do a direct rival and title contender. The move has also
prompted retired captain John Terry to state that Cech could save Arsenal more
than 12 points a season, a statement that cements Cech’s reputation in football
circles.
Continuing the summer’s trend of old-timers leaving the
Blues to find greener pastures, it seems John Obi Mikel, who joined the club in
2006, is finally going to switch to UAE side Al-Ain.
The terms of the deal or
transfer figures have not been disclosed yet, but it seems Mourinho is finally
ready to place the faith that he has so consistently placed on Mikel, on
someone else. While any loyalists would be teary-eyed to see the back of Mikel,
a number of fans would breathe a sigh of relief, often having wondered what
Mourinho saw in the Nigerian midfielder.
Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke, who displayed
sizzling form in the second half of the last season, seems to have caught the
fancy of Chelsea boss Mourinho, who wants to add the striker to the list even
though the word is that Radamel Falcao is almost ready to make a move to the
current Premier League champions. The striker is not too keen on signing a new
contract at Villa Park. And with Liverpool unwilling to meet his £32 million
release clause, Chelsea have emerged as front runners to land the rising star. Please follow us on Facebook.
