There have been some wonderful matches this
week in the English Premier League. With
Manchester united winning 2-0 and two very tough and battling draws by
Manchester City and Arsenal were the highlights of this week’s Premier league
Football news. Manchester city remaining goalless
against a team like Aston Villa is bound to raise some questions. So keep
reading to get further information on how things turned out for English
football this week. Do check out the top stories.
United beat West Bromwich 2-0
In a game which turned out to be a happy
one for Louis Van Gaal, Jesse Lingard scored his first goal for Manchester
United at the 52nd minute giving his team a handsome edge over West
Bromwich Albion. He was joined by teammate Juan Mata scoring from a
penalty in added time. This 2-0 win over West Bromwich propels the club to the fourth
place but lagging behind only by a point from joint leaders Manchester City and
Arsenal.
In other matches, Leichester City which was
at third place in the tables beat Watford 2-1 at home. Norwich beat Swansea 1-0
with Howson scoring at the 70th minute. Everton came from behind and
drew 1-1 with West Ham after Lukaku equalised just before half time.
City fails to find the nets, draws against Aston Villa
In what was a rather disappointing show of
football, Manchester City, the board leaders, remained goalless against a club
like Aston Villa which is at the bottom of the table. Their shortage of
strikers was rather prominent and brutally exposed after they couldn’t seem to
find the net in Sunday’s game. With Sterling and Fernando wasting chances and
with the continued absence of Sergio Aguero, a rather grand opportunity to
consolidate themselves at the top of the table was wasted. It also marked the
end of Aston Villa’s streak of seven defeats with Remi Garde, villa’s new
manager winning a point in his very first game.
Crystal palace beat Liverpool 2-1 at
Antfieldas Coutinho’s equaliser before half time went in vain. Scott Dann’s brilliant
82nd minute goal took the game away from Liverpool quite
convincingly. This ended Juergen Klopp’s unbeaten streak as manager of
Liverpool.
Arsenal come back from behind to draw game with Tottenham
In the other big game this Sunday in the
Emirates, Arsenal managed to draw 1-1 with Tottenham after a wonderful comeback
with an equaliser from Kieran Gibbs in the second half. Earlier Tottenham
seemed to be bubbling with confidence when Harry Kane scored a goal at the 32nd
minute. There were some very nervous moments for the Gunner’s fans after the
1-0 lead continued for a long time. It was when Gibbs scored a beautiful goal
at the 77th minute, that the Arsenal fans were able to breathe a
sigh of relief thus scripting a wonderful comeback. But the draw meant that the
gunners would have to wait more before taking over as leaders.
