Aston
Villa, also popular as The Villa, Villa and The Villans, is an English

Establishment
Aston
Villa was established in March, 1874 at Villa Park which is their current
stadium. The club was one of the founder members of the Football League that
was established back in 1888. They are also among the founder members of
present day Premier League set up in 1992. The club has managed to retain their
place in the highest level of English league system since 1992. Villa was
previously owned by Doug Ellis who was also the chairman of the club. American
business baron Randy Lerner established his full control over the club in 2006.
Success
In the history of English football, Aston Villa is
one of the most successful clubs. They came off victorious in European Cup of
1981-82 season and are one among the five English outfits to have won
prestigious UEFA Champions League. Villa is the fifth club in terms of major
honors achieved so far. They have claimed First Division Championship title
seven times and also won the FA Cup in seven campaigns
Villa is the five-time winner of the Football League
Cup and also claimed victory in 1982 UEFA Super Cup. They also have set up a
new record by producing 73 national team players – a feat which is only
emulated by London-based club Tottenham Hotspur.
Rivalry
Aston Villa have rivalry with local clubs Birmingham
City. Both the clubs have been playing second City derby since 1879.
Jersey
and Badge
Claret shirts teamed up with sky blue sleeves in
combination with sky blue socks and white shorts – that completes the look of
an Aston Villa player on the pitch. A rampant lion in gold color on the
background of light blue is the traditional badge of Aston Villa. The background
has ‘Prepared’ – Villa’s motto – printed underneath the background. In 2007,
the club adopted a modified version of their traditional badge.

Ground
Aston Villa have their current home ground at Villa
Park that is a 5-star stadium rated by UEFA. They played at Aston Park and
Wellington Road during 1874-76 and 1876-97 respectively. Villa Park is the
largest football ground in the English Midlands as well as the eighth largest outfit
in the country. A total of 16 England internationals on senior levels have been
hosted at the stadium, the first of which was organized in 1899 and the most
recent one has been in 2005.
The Villa Park is the most
frequently used stadium in the history of FA Cup semi-final. A total number of 55
semi-finals have been hosted at the stadium. The club now have a plan to extend
the North Stand of the stadium. After the project is completed, it will accommodate
nearly 51,000 spectators.
Aston Villa have their
training ground at Bodymoor
Heath Training Ground. The team is currently managed by Remi Garde.
